Stockport Covered Market Hall wins RICS NW Regeneration Award - 07/05/2010
Stockport Covered Market last night was awarded an RICS NW Award, winning the regeneration category.
The award calls for projects that have made exceptional improvements to urban, rural or coastal areas and that have improved the built or natural environment in a way that has contributed to the viability of the area.
Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams completed a project that restored and redeveloped the listed market hall, that sits at the heart of the Market and Underbanks Conservation Area.
Project Architect Frances Armitage Smith said; "one of the key aims of the brief was to improve visibility of the market hall, connecting the internal and external markets and marketplace.
"One of the best results from the project has been that the covered market has increased the number of market days each week, and the restored, ornate interior is visible to visitors and shoppers alike, even on the days the market is not trading."
