Work starts on site at MOSI - 07/12/2009

Work has started on site at MOSI in Manchester to redevelop the grade II listed Lower Byrom Street Warehouse as the new entrance building for the museum.

Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams have worked with the museum to open the building up, removing the current ramps that dominate the space, and create a new exhibiton gallery (Revolution Manchester) to welcome and orient visitors.

The building use also houses the main education suite for the museum, its principal café and restaurant, and events and conference suite. The new scheme rationalises accommodation, moving the restaurant and conferencing suite to the front of the building, on the first and second floors respectively.

The popular hands-on Experiment gallery, which currently attracts thousands of children every year, will be expanded and moved from the second floor to the first floor, with its own dedicated space, complete with toilets, lockers and picnic areas.
