proposed new development at blackburn college - 30/07/2007

A Planning Application has been submitted for a new Higher Education facility at Blackburn College.

Designed by Buttress Fuller Alsop Williams, the proposed HE building is sited on a prominent position on the perimeter of the College Campus and comprises three distinct elements – a five-storey white-rendered teaching block which is curved to mimic the line of the inner ring-road adjacent to the site, a solid brick-built administration block which marks the entrance to the building and a glazed atrium which links them. Coloured vertical fins provide solar-shading and introduce a dynamic element to the south facing façade which faces the rest of the campus.

When constructed, it will be the second phase of Blackburn College’s proposed multi-million pound redevelopment, funded in partnership with The Learning and Skills Council and the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
