Ecclesiastical - The Cathedral Church of St Anne, Leeds
Within our commission as architects to Leeds RC Cathedral we have recently completed a major project to restore, refurbish and re-order the interior of the grade II* listed cathedral.
The cathedral was built in the arts and crafts period by Eastwood and has a very human scale and warmth. Prior to the works the interior was however darkened with dirt, and gloomy.
Works have seen wholesale refurbishment and reodering of the main sanctuary area. The cathedral now has an underfloor heating system and new stone floor running throughout, a new lighting scheme, contemporary glazed confessionals plus specially commissioned oak furniture. The whole interior has been cleaned and specialist work has restored the two reredos screens; the major reodering of the sanctuary with its new elements has been done in a sympathetic way to the original style.
